Volunteers Needed

The Town of Cortlandt Department of Environmental Services Homeland Safety Office is seeking volunteers for the next training classes for the Town’s Disaster Reserve Partner Group.

On Tuesday April 19th, at 7 PM an informational meeting is scheduled at Town Hall Nyberg Meeting Room.

Residents of the Town are encouraged to assist strengthening our local disaster response resources in shelter operations.  Volunteers must be at least age 18.  There is no prior experience required, and all training materials are provided.

The training in Introduction to Disaster Services, Mass Care, and Shelter Operations is provided by the Westchester Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The Town purchased in 2003 a disaster supply trailer.  The Town has one trained shelter operations team and the addition of a second team is needed.  A video tape of the shelter exercise conducted in September will be shown.

Be on call on a volunteer basis to help set up a local shelter during times of emergencies.  Don’t miss this opportunity to get involved and be informed.  The Disaster Reserve Partner Group is part of the Town’s Citizen Corps Council.

For additional information, please check the Town of Cortlandt website, or call Homeland Safety Coordinator, Jeff Tkacs, and 914-734-2029.
