Thank you Community
Capital Reserve Fund Use for Roof Repairs Approved

Dear Members of the Croton-Harmon School Community,

On behalf of the Croton-Harmon Board of Education, and the students and staff of the Croton-Harmon School District, we extend our sincere gratitude for your approval to use Capital Reserve funds.  These funds will be used to repair and replace roof sections at all five of our buildings.

Your overwhelming support by a vote of 472 “yes”-58 “no” indicates that this community places a high premium on the preservation of its school facilities and acts in the best interests of the children of Croton-Harmon.  Voters previously approved the establishment of the Capital Reserve Fund to serve as a savings account for addressing much needed school infrastructure repairs.

An amount appropriate to support the estimated $3.4 million in roof repairs has already been allocated; therefore no new taxes will be raised.  However, voter authorization was required by law in order to spend these existing funds on this project.  Since a total of $3.6 million was authorized from the Capital Reserve as a result of the November 16 vote, remaining monies will be used to address necessary masonry site repairs, as well as other miscellaneous minor repairs.

By acting now, our district ultimately saves money on these repairs by capitalizing on competitive construction markets. Our architect will soon submit plans to the State Education Department (SED), followed by the process of advertising for bids on all of the necessary work.  We hope to have approval this spring in time to begin work this summer, when children are out of school.  This work will be performed around the school schedule and will not impact or interrupt instruction.

Thank you again for your confidence and support.  We value the partnership between the Croton-Harmon Schools and our community.
