Croton on Hudson Media Advisory
Village of Croton-on-Hudson E-Notice
Village of Croton-on-Hudson media advisory August 29, 2011

Croton River facilities remain closed following tragedy.
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has extended its local state of emergency to 18:00 on 2 September 2011, Friday. As part of this measure, the, Village has extended the closure of all of its Croton River facilities due to extreme water flows. The closed facilities within the Village include Black Rock Park, Silver Lake, Mayo's Landing, and the Echo Canoe & Boat Launch at the train station parking lot. The County has issued a closure of Croton Gorge Park at the Croton Dam in effect until further notice.

Hence, until further notice all public facilities commonly used to access the Croton River are closed to avoid any further dangerous situations.

In a normal rain storm of 1 to 2 inches, the Croton River may not crest and return pre-storm water levels until 1 or 2 days have passed. In aftermath of Irene, we anticipate it may take several days before the Croton River returns to safe levels. At this point, the water volume and speed in the river remains too dangerous and unpredictable to allow access for any purpose.
